TERM LIMITS FOR LOOMIS TOWN COUNCIL-An Idea Whose Time Has Come
Here are some of the posts that we have received already on our blog @ termlimitsforloomis.wordpress.com
Let us hear your thoughts on Term Limits for the Loomis Town Council, we really want to know.
Interested Citizen - May 14th, 2009
I thought I was the only one in Loomis who believed “term limits” would be a boost for our town. I mean it is noble to want to serve your community, but when it drags on for 12, 16 years, let’s face it, it no longer is about serving the community, it’s about feeding your own ego! I would really like to know how my neighbors feel on this subject and I encourage anyone else who feels like I do to chime in. This is “our town”, I know a few council people feel like it’s “their town” and we all should be damn grateful that they let us live here, but it’s time we start asking the tough question, like what have they done for us. I see a lot of roads in disrepair. I refuse to vote for some moron standing on the corner holding his re-election sign every 4 years, wanting a council position and deserving a council position is entirely 2 different things!

I have lived in Loomis for over fifty years and have observed the council since its inception. We have had some very good council members, who I feel have tried to serve the communities best interest, but after a time of the constant bickering, and infighting they usually give up and move on to other ways to serve the community, or just give up and give in to the dominate few who seem to think it is my way or no way. I think term limits would be good for Loomis, maybe with term limits we could see things done to benefit our community and not just the good old boys with their special interest. I believe in slow growth and controlled growth, but some growth is necessary and inevitable. We need business to support our infrastructure. Maybe then we could repair our roads, extend our sewer system and do other necessary repairs and projects. It is time we learned to get along with our neighboring communities with respect, dignity, and negotiation . Lets stop spending what tax money we do have on law suits. Most elected government positions have term limits and we need them in Loomis. Talk to your friends and neighbors , what do they think about term limits? Lets keep Loomis rural and friendly, respectful and dignified.

If term limits would finally get Rhonda Morillas yanked out of the seat she seems to think she owns, I'm all for it. She does absolutely nothing but sit there and belittle those she disagrees with. Time to retire, Rhonda.
The voters don't provide "term limits"?
It's never good to lose really effective elected officials, and apparently someone is putting these incumbents back into office. Maybe a better voter information/preparation/education system is in order rather than limiting choices.
Just askin'
There are plenty of other qualified effective people in Loomis who are intelligent enought to figure out how to run the Town of Loomis.
There are a lot of people who are qualified who won't run because they feel like they don't have a snowballs chance in hell to win because all of the other canidates are soo well known & entrenched in the Loomis community, and they don't have time to stand on the street corner to wave signs all day long. I believe that they have tried to run debates in community to inform voters about the canidates about where they stand, but there is quite a bick of high drama when it comes to election debates. Several of our current Town Council People have give our community a really bad reputation locally & nationally. We would like to see our town have a better reputation and Town Council People who are interested in representing the residents instead of their own agendas. If term limits is good enought for the President, it's good enough for Loomis.
True, running for political office is a grueling, time-consuming, and expensive experience. Unfortunately, many of the best administrators or representatives have a hard time doing the one thing necessary to win an elction -- raise money. It goes against the grain of successful business or community leaders to "beg" for money for themselves. It takes more than a good candidate to win. It takes a good TEAM. If you have someone in mind to run for a political office you have to sit down with him/her, make sure they have the time and resources, and then YOU have to do everything possible to get that person elected. It takes money, organization, volunteers, and most of all, time. Even a town as small as Loomis can be challenging for a newcomer to present himself and his ideas. That's why it takes a good organization behind the candidate.
Those who study the issues and offer realistic solutions make the best candidates. Those who complain but offer no solutions wil frustrate you and probably not last the term if elected.
So, choose wisely and be prepared to help for the campaign, the election, and the full term. Voting is the LEAST of our political responsibilities. It's the implementation and follow-up that makes the difference.
Good luck to you.
