JV Volleyball Plays Tough Opponents
The Del Oro JV volleyball taem started off the 2010 season against two very good programs. On Tuesday the Eagles lost a hard fought match to Oak Ridge by the scores of 24-26 and 20-25. The offense was led by middle blocker Joleen Montarbo and outside hitters Laura Hunt and Analise Heinritz with 2 kills apiece. Back row players Bailey Arakelian and Jessica Becker kept the offense going with timely passes to setter Amy Heyn. The defense was led by middle blocker Madi Galuszka and back row player Summer Shell, who had 5 digs. Hunt, Heyn, and Arakelian combined to make 25 out of 26 serves and score 11 points. Wednesday, Del Oro traveled up the hill to the Earl Crabbe Gym to play the Hillgals. The match went to 3 games before Placer prevailed 20-25, 25-21, and 15-3. Right side hitter Sam Harris led the Eagles with 4 kills, outside hitters Laura Hunt and Analise Heinritz contributed 3 and 2 kills respectively. Back row player Bailey Arakelian and setter Amy Heyn helped keep the offense going. Middle blockers Steph Geyer and Madi Galuszka (3 blocks) helped clog up the middle and forced Placer to tip and roll many balls over the net. The back row play of Jessica Becker and Summer Shell with numerous digs kept many points alive. Hunt, Heyn, and Harris combined to make 25 out of 27 serves to score 19 points. Next week, Del Oro will host Ponderosa on Tuesday, Sept. 7th and visit Colfax on Thursday, Sept. 9th.
